I wanted to let you know that Tiger is doing great! We went ahead and put her in an aquarium with a couple of inches of water, some flat rocks for her to climb up on, and a lamp. Her navel button kept getting smaller and smaller. I don't know where it went but it's gone. Dad thinks she still has her egg tooth.
I cut up some earthworms (which was really gross!) but she didn't eat them. I gave some of the earthworms to Emerald and she followed them around but they kept swimming under her. They're gone so I guess she finally ate them.
My mom took some kids on a field trip to a wetland and brought back some water with duckweed and swimming things - beetles, dragonfly larvae, etc... Tiger started eating some of the duckweed right away and she likes to hide in it. It's really hard to see her! It's so funny to watch her stalk the bugs.
We've changed the water a couple of times and put some of duckweed in Emerald. Mom set up a lamp for Emerald and has taken her out for a couple of walks. Emerald even has a pet - a yellow crab spider that lives under her basking rock.
I think it's going to get harder to take care of Tiger once it gets too cold for the duckweed. We've tried to get some duckweed going in a separate tank but this slimy, stinky green algae takes over.
Does anyone have any ideas on other appropriate foods? Most of what we've been doing is stuff we learned online.
Awaiting your words of wisdom, willowmonkey
